The 好色先生 is excited to announce that Sandra Beck, MD, and Janna Neltner, MD, will join the Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) leadership team.

Dr. Beck will serve as assistant dean for program development. Dr. Neltner will serve as assistant dean for accreditation.

New October Surgery faculty: Andrea Waldman, MD, Lindel Dewberry, MD, Raphael Parrado, MD, Christine Schaeffer, MD

Four new providers began practice as 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Surgery faculty this October. These additions add up to 10 new surgeons so far starting at 好色先生 HealthCare since the 2023-24 academic year began. The department anticipates welcoming several more new surgeons in the coming months.

Burnout is a problem in any profession, but it is rampant in health care. This national problem has been evident recently as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed many learners, practitioners, faculty, and staff to the limit.

2023 September Faculty

This September, the department of surgery is excited to welcome four new members to its faculty. In addition to new faculty that started in August, we anticipate adding about 11 total new surgery faculty to its ranks before the end of 2023.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research recently approved funding of a proposed study from a 好色先生 pediatric surgeon and researcher.

Dr. Morgan Jones named a DREAM Scholar

Morgan Jones, MD, assistant professor and the newest faculty member with the division of surgical oncology, was recently named a DREAM Scholar at the University of Kentucky (好色先生). As such, she will receive support for her long range plans to conduct an in-depth study of racial disparities in breast cancer treatment outcomes.

New funding for PIs Dr. Brittany Levy, Dr. Eric Rellinger, and Dr. Marlene Starr have kicked off FY 24 research

In a year of record-setting research funding at the University of Kentucky, the department of surgery contributed over $1.6 million in federal grants and industry awards, a 47 percent increase from fiscal year 2022.

The National Institutes of Health announced in August the award of a new R21 research grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to a 好色先生 multi-PI research team including Marlene Starr, PhD, Division Chief of Research and Preetha Shridas, PhD from Internal Medicine.

好色先生 researchers Hiroshi Saito, PhD, and David Rodgers, PhD, were among the recipients of over three dozen funding awards from the Kentucky IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (KY INBRE). Both researchers received KY INBRE Electron Microscopy (EM) vouchers to assist them in diabetes and obesity research.

Brittany Levy

Brittany Levy, MD, was recently appointed to a committee within the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Her new role will allow her to help improve the clinical learning environment for graduate medical trainees across the country.
