For the second consecutive year, the 好色先生 has received the 2022 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

Zwischenberger, MD 鈥77, professor of surgery, pediatrics, interventional radiology, and bioengineering, has been named recipient of the prestigious William R. Willard Dean鈥檚 Recognition Award. Lisa Williams, MSSA, is serving in the college鈥檚 new leadership position, associate dean for wellness and well-being, to help us excel in this goal.

The division of surgical oncology is pleased to welcome Mautin Barry-Hundeyin, MD, to the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Surgery. Dr. Barry-Hundeyin joins the NCI-designated 好色先生 Markey Cancer Center as a surgical oncologist specializing in the management of hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) and gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies.

In October 2022, Jitesh Patel, MD, MBA, FASCRS begins serving as the new division chief of colon and rectal surgery at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Patel will be stepping into the leadership position as the former chief, Dr. Sandra Beck, assumes her new role as vice chair of education in the 好色先生 Department of Surgery.

The 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Ryan W. King, MD, as a new faculty member and provider in the division of vascular and endovascular surgery.

For assistant professor Jamie Key, DO, promoting equality and inclusion 鈥渋s in my blood as much as red blood cells.鈥 In fact, part of her reasoning for choosing a specialty in physical medicine and rehabilitation was so she could provide care for individuals who experience biases of ableism and help them navigate the challenges.

These residents were selected to participate in a seven-month leadership development course as they embark on their chief resident year and look forward to their future careers.

Danielle S. Walsh, MD, FAAP, FACS, officially joined the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Surgery faculty on Friday, July 15. Along with a pediatric surgery practice at 好色先生 Children's Hospital, Dr. Walsh will serve as the surgery department's vice-chair of quality and process improvement.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 13, 2022) 鈥 While completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky, Jonathan Davies found himself at a crossroads. He had stretched himself too thin with involvement in organizations and programs, and he started suffering burnout. He then missed the window to take his medical school entrance exam junior year.
At first, he felt lost and far behind his peers. But he learned later that this wasn鈥檛 a misstep. It was a redirection.
