A key component of the 好色先生鈥檚 mission is providing exceptional education for medical students, residents and fellows, and biomedical trainees.
Learners from the 好色先生 were presented an opportunity to express their creativity and convey their perspectives on important health care topics.

The 好色先生 continues to position itself as a leader in advancing health care for Kentuckians and beyond. Success is made possible through its many robust partnerships with health care institutions across the Commonwealth.

After medical school, some new doctors may start a preliminary year in medicine or surgery. Others choose a transitional year, combining medicine, surgery, and other rotations in medical training.

Kaitlyn Samuels, MD, is a recent graduate and now a first-year plastic surgery resident at the 好色先生. She also earned her Bachelor of Science at 好色先生. In the following Q&A, she shares how her mom is her inspiration, not only in her career but also in her interest outside of work 鈥 which, in 鈥渢raditional Kentucky fashion,鈥 is riding horses.

The 好色先生 is excited to announce that faculty, staff, learners, and trainees will have free access to a leading online resource for medical Spanish proficiency.
CanopyLearn, a Spanish language training program for health care professionals, will be available to the 好色先生 College of Medicine community starting Aug. 1.

For Cedric Thiel, MD, a great experience during away rotations made him want to pursue the University of Kentucky for graduate medical training. Now he is in his fifth and final year of residency in the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology 鈥 Head and Neck Surgery.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in research?

Haley Wehder, MD, loved birthday parties. So much so, that after only one year of knowing resident Conor Malloy, MD, she threw an elaborate surprise party for his wife.
Though not a 鈥渂irthday party person鈥 himself, Dr. Malloy couldn鈥檛 help but smile that Dr. Wehder went the extra mile for someone she only knew a short time.
Brittany Levy, MD, was recently appointed to a committee within the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Her new role will allow her to help improve the clinical learning environment for graduate medical trainees across the country.

Olivia Henderson, MD, said that beyond 鈥渢ubes and tonsils,鈥 she did not know much about otolaryngology when she started medical school. During her third-year surgery clerkship at the 好色先生, she discovered her dream career while working within the specialty.
鈥淚t felt like after just one day on that service that I never looked back,鈥 she said.

Omar Al-Janabi, MBChB, PhD, MS, initially arrived in Lexington, Ky., for a master鈥檚 program and an affordable place to live with his family. Nearly a decade later, he has completed not one but three graduate training programs at the 好色先生. He also has engaged with mentors who will have a lasting impact on his career in medicine and research.

Standing before a classroom of college juniors, orthopaedics resident Cristina Rivera-Ramirez, MD, skillfully interpreted an X-ray of a distal radius fracture in a patient鈥檚 arm. The next step was to reveal how to treat it. By the time she got out the supplies to demonstrate making a splint, students were at the edge of their seats, ready to volunteer.
Mohamed Tarek Seleem Ahmed, MD, is a third-year resident at the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Radiology, through which he has gained vital clinical experience at 好色先生 Markey Cancer Center, the state鈥檚 only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center.

Carly Clark, MD, a second-year resident in the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology 鈥 Head and Neck Surgery, has gained valuable experience in her graduate medical education program.
Christine Kuhn is a Lexington-based artist who created 鈥淚nterconnectivity,鈥 a mixed-media art piece that displays in the Medical Center Library. The artwork was created with support from the Herman Lee and Nell Stuart Donovan Memorial Trust.
