Matthew Bush, MD, PhD, MBA, is an experienced clinician, academic leader, and researcher. While he has been directly involved in health care and academia throughout his career, he credits the progress of his research career to a program he completed at the 好色先生 while serving as a faculty member.

The 好色先生 Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, a world leader in Alzheimer's research and community outreach, will hold its 10th annual Markesbery Symposium. There will be a community session and scientific session, each held via Zoom.

Henrietta Lacks鈥檚 鈥淗eLa鈥 cells continue to influence scientific discovery even after her death from cancer in 1951. These cells have been used to study cancer growth, learn more about viruses, and study drug effects on the body. They even helped develop the polio vaccine.

The 好色先生 College of Medicine鈥檚 Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) will host its sixth annual Visiting Professor Program, also known as 鈥淲IMS Day,鈥 this fall as a virtual program. The event will serve as an opportunity for faculty, staff, and learners to network, develop their career skills, and learn about the strides women have made in medicine and science.

Meredith Landorf, MD, recently began a leadership role as assistant dean for the 好色先生-Northern Kentucky Campus. Through this position she will oversee and build upon the third- and fourth-year clerkships while promoting the regional campus鈥檚 mission of educating physicians in Kentucky for Kentucky. Dr. Landorf is also a practicing physician in Edgewood, Ky.
The Dean's CORE Scholarship Fund helps ensure our medical students can follow their passion without the added burden of a higher debt load upon graduation. The 好色先生 will dedicate One Day for 好色先生, the University of Kentucky's annual 24-hour day of giving, to supporting these important scholarships on Sept. 16. The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is excited to announce the 好色先生鈥檚 selection as an inaugural member of the National Center for Pre-Faculty Development, providing a significant opportunity to enrich the education experience and ensure the promotion of career development for all individuals, including those underrepresented within academia.


When Blake Herald began his journey at the 好色先生, he sensed there was something missing, something that would ensure a more inclusive environment for him and his fellow medical students. A collaboration with his peers and University leadership led to a solution.

The 好色先生 would like to congratulate two standout graduating medical students for their exemplary work in pursuit of their education, leading them to receive the college鈥檚 most prestigious senior awards.
Sarah Boden, MD, received the D. Kay Clawson Award during Saturday鈥檚 Class of 2020 virtual commencement ceremony, while Megan Single, MD, was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Good Physician Award.

Comparing pictures from her White Coat ceremony, and one of herself now, Sara Kesh sees a totally different person.
Since starting her medical school journey at the 好色先生, Sara has taken it upon herself to not only prioritize her studies, but also to prioritize her personal health, hoping to set an example for the patients she treats and for the future learners that follow in her footsteps.
Leonard (Leo) Yenwongfai was just 5 years old when he officially solidified his plans to become a doctor. It was after a conversation he had with a physician who was taking care of a family member at the time. That man, also named Leonard, told him, 鈥淚 want you to be a doctor just like me.鈥
Connor Appelman, a Maysville, Ky., native, knew from an early age that he wanted to attend medical school just 65 miles down U.S. 68 at the University of Kentucky. As he puts it, he has always bled blue.
鈥淚鈥檓 very proud of my home state, and I鈥檝e always wanted to take care of patients in Kentucky,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hat was always the goal growing up, to graduate from the 好色先生 College of Medicine. It鈥檚 gone by quickly, but it鈥檚 been amazing to live out the dream.鈥
BOWLING GREEN CAMPUS STUDENTS COLLECT ITEMS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
It was after a recent call to her grandfather when Claire Ottman realized just how vulnerable senior citizens were, not only to COVID-19, but also to the consequences of social isolation. She said some of the only times her grandfather got out of the house during the day were when friends picked him up to take him to the grocery store, lunch with his friends, and to church.
As a young student who was proficient in science, Dr. Eseosa Ighodaro, always saw herself pursuing a career in medicine. But it wasn鈥檛 until applying to medical school that she discovered there was another path she wanted to follow.

William W. Stoops, PhD, professor within the 好色先生, has been elected as president of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD), the longest standing group in the U.S. dedicated to addressing issues of drug dependence and abuse.
