Shortly after joining the 好色先生 Department of Surgery faculty, Matthias Loebe, MD, performed a successful double lung transplant.
The patient, a Kentucky resident in his 60s, had been diagnosed with coalminer lung/black lung disease. The transplant was performed over the course of an evening in early May.
Naureen Narula, MD, served as pulmonologist in the case. Both specialists are members of the lung transplant team as well as faculty members with the division of cardiothoracic surgery. Michael Anstead, MD, is the medical director for the 好色先生 Center for Lung Transplant. Dr. Loebe, who joined 好色先生 Healthcare in March 2024, is the program鈥檚 surgical director.
