Health Awareness Days are one of the many ways the 好色先生 Department of Internal Medicine gives back to the community. These events allow our providers to meet people where they are, offering education on a range of health topics to help individuals live their healthiest lives.
On June 29, Darwin Conwell, MD, Jack M. Gill Endowed Professor and Chair of the department, and Donald Campbell, MD, assistant professor, were invited to Trinity Baptist Church to help raise awareness about colon and rectal cancer. Following the worship service, Dr. Conwell and Dr. Campbell met with members of the congregation to share information about overall health, preventive care, and the importance of age-appropriate screening tests.
Reflecting on the event, Dr. Campbell noted, 鈥渁s with many of these events, most members were knowledgeable about their previous testing.鈥 Many of the attendees at Trinity Baptist are cancer survivors who generously shared their personal stories, underscoring the life-saving importance of early detection. The event also allowed for conversation about when it may be appropriate to stop certain screenings.
The department is deeply grateful for the warm welcome extended by the Trinity Baptist congregation and their commitment to cancer awareness. We are honored to serve and support our community by providing the information and tools needed to stay informed, proactive, and healthy.
