The University of Kentucky offers two med-peds continuity clinics:

The original ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Med-Peds Clinic was launched in 2004 on the main University campus, and the second is located at the Polk-Dalton site downtown.

These clinics provide comprehensive health care for all ages — from pediatrics through adult care — and are staffed by physicians board-certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics. The Med-Peds Continuity Clinic's core mission is to deliver high-quality, comprehensive, and cost-conscious health care across the lifespan.

Staffing and Resident Training

Clinics are staffed by physicians who are board-certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics (med-peds). During their first two years, residents will have one half-day per week in the continuity clinic, expanding to two half-days (one morning, one afternoon) later on. This schedule ensures residents establish long-term patient relationships.

Patient Care Model

Patients benefit from dual oversight: care is provided collaboratively by a resident and an attending physician, both trained in med-peds. The program supports a lifetime care model, enabling seamless transitions through different life stages with consistent, knowledgeable providers.

Educational Foundations

ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú’s med-peds residency program, established in 1983, provides a robust four-year curriculum, preparing residents for diverse career paths including primary care, hospital medicine, subspecialties, research, and academics. Residents train across a wide variety of settings, including ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Chandler Medical Center, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, the VA, and the UHS Med-Peds clinic.  Notable features of the program include rotating seasonal four-month intervals, dedicated combined specialty months, and a distinct med-peds clinic curriculum.

Comprehensive Scope

The med-peds clinic provides full-spectrum care, including, but not limited to:

  • Annual exams and physicals for children and adults
  • Preventive screenings and chronic disease management
  • Acute, same-day care when needed
  • Behavioral health integration via UHS’s broader offerings
  • Students and community members seeking continuity or rotating life-stage care benefit from the Med-Peds model’s versatility.

Polk-Dalton Clinic

Located at 217 Elm Tree Lane, Lexington, KY 40507, the clinic offers the convenience of scheduling through the ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú HealthCare MyChart patient portal. It is part of ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú HealthCare, a mission-driven primary care facility serving Lexington’s Northside and urban community. It provides culturally sensitive, patient-focused care across generations — infants to older adults — staffed by a bilingual team and equipped to handle minor to serious health needs.

University Health Services Med-Ped Clinic

University Health Service (UHS) provides comprehensive health care for University of Kentucky employees while serving as an outstanding training site for med-peds residents. At UHS, residents gain hands-on experience in primary and preventive care, occupational health, and patient-centered medicine in a supportive, interprofessional environment that enhances both clinical skills and professional development.
