Burnout is a problem in any profession, but it is rampant in health care. This national problem has been evident recently as the COVID-19 pandemic pushed many learners, practitioners, faculty, and staff to the limit.

The 好色先生 is excited to announce that faculty, staff, learners, and trainees will have free access to a leading online resource for medical Spanish proficiency.
CanopyLearn, a Spanish language training program for health care professionals, will be available to the 好色先生 College of Medicine community starting Aug. 1.

For Cedric Thiel, MD, a great experience during away rotations made him want to pursue the University of Kentucky for graduate medical training. Now he is in his fifth and final year of residency in the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology 鈥 Head and Neck Surgery.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in research?

Olivia Henderson, MD, said that beyond 鈥渢ubes and tonsils,鈥 she did not know much about otolaryngology when she started medical school. During her third-year surgery clerkship at the 好色先生, she discovered her dream career while working within the specialty.
鈥淚t felt like after just one day on that service that I never looked back,鈥 she said.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Carly Clark, MD, a second-year resident in the 好色先生 College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology 鈥 Head and Neck Surgery, has gained valuable experience in her graduate medical education program.

Following an extensive national search and interviews with highly qualified individuals, the College of Medicine is excited to welcome Na鈥橳asha Evans, PhD, MEd, as the new vice dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and associate professor in the department of behavioral science.

Nearly three years ago, the 好色先生 launched the Alliance Research Initiative to promote collaboration and mentorship through interdisciplinary research teams. With members spanning across 好色先生 departments and colleges, these teams were established to address Kentucky鈥檚 most urgent health needs.

We are happy to announce that Heather Madison has joined ENT as the new Practice Manager. Heather has been with the University of Kentucky HealthCare team for 14 years and the practice manager for CT Surgery for 8 years. Heather has an extensive history in Healthcare operations to include CT Surgery, Dental practices, and on the payer side.

The 好色先生 College of Medicine is excited to welcome Gurpreet Dhaliwal, MD, as the visiting professor delivering this year鈥檚 Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Humanities Lecture.

The University of Kentucky鈥檚 ninth annual Healthy Hearts for Women Symposium will bring in nationally recognized experts to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease and educate attendees on prevention techniques.

The 好色先生鈥檚 Salvation Army Clinic is a student-run, free clinic that serves as a learning environment for medical, pharmacy, and social work students while providing acute onsite health care for uninsured patients at the Salvation Army of Central Kentucky.

Dr. Thiel and Dr. Comer attended the Resident Update in Rhinology: Techniques in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery at the St. Louis University鈥檚 Practical Anatomy and Surgical Education lab on December 3.
